I picked up this darling cake tin this fall. Even though it is a wee bit rough, I couldn't pass up the Fruit! Besides it was a great price!
The Decoware line was made by the Continental Can Company in the 1950s. They made trays, cake tins, flour/sugar canisters, bread boxes, picnic baskets, wastepaper baskets and the like. All in a variety of patterns; flowers, fruit, wheat, stripes, plaid, stars and more fruit and flowers! The Continental Can Co was started in 1904, survived the Great Depression, went into government work during WWII and was a multi-million dollar business by the 1950s. It had major factories in New York and Chicago.
A cheery addition to the kitchen!
I love it! Very cheery indeed. And what is under the lid? :-) Something yummy I am sure.
ReplyDeleteLol! Unfortunatly there isn't anything under the lid, at the moment. I will be sure to take a few snaps when I do put something under it!
DeleteIt does brighten up the kitchen and like Carla I want to know what is in the tin.
ReplyDeleteI am going to keep my eye out for the matching canisters. Can't have to much cheerfulness!
DeleteOh my goodness! I think my mom or grandma had one of those YEARS ago. I used to have an old yellow metal one...and threw it out. Why oh why do I ever throw anything away!
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to foresee what will have a use for. Wouldn't you like to know what your grandmother threw away?
DeleteI remember my Grandmother having this and salt&pepper shakers. I had a child's dish set made of the same ten, and it had nursery rimes. Yes, we never know what will be popular in the future. Mary
ReplyDeleteOh cute! Salt and pepper shakers! I didn't see any pictures of those in my research. A child's dish set would be very cute too. I think I have seen a few of those.....I wonder if the same company made them....
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. I love old cake pans. I have a bread box with a red lid and the fruit on the front of it almost matches your cake pan. I think they are strawberries and peaches, though.
ReplyDeleteMy youngest daughter brought this home one day & decided when she moved out she didn't want it anymore. I've been looking for a new one because mine is a bit worn, but now that I've found out what it is, I'm happy with it & keeping it!
