One Year Ago Today...............

It has been a year since I bought my little house! Can you believe it?! It has been quite the adventure. Who knew buying a house would change our lives so much?

Don't you love looking back on birthdays, anniversaries and other such occasions on how much has changed in the past year? In honor of this occasion I thought we could take a visual look back on all that has changed at my house in one year! (I also realized I really haven't shared all of the before/after pictures.) Of course some of the pictures are not "after" pictures, just "Progress" pictures.

  4. Hi Heidi,
As an apron expert, I wonder if you know what this means:
‘But one evening, just as the table was cleared and "readied up," and Mrs. Todd had put her large apron over her head and stepped forth for an evening stroll in the garden, the unexpected happened. ... ... ...’
It's from the well-known book of stories from Maine, Country of the Pointed Firs, by Sarah Orne Jewett, published in 1896. What kind of apron do you suppose Mrs. Todd was putting on? Is it an "over the head" apron as opposed to a "tie on" apron? Was it fancier than a kitchen apron or was it less fancy for gardening? I just thought you might know the context of apron usage in the 1890's. Anyway, thanks for any thoughts yo might have! Best, Athena

    1. Lovely quote! Yes, you are correct. Just as there is "waist aprons" that cover from the waist down there are fuller coverage aprons that cover from the neck to the waist and more of the back. It was right around this era that the full coverage aprons became popular. I have a couple of this style on my pinterest board "1900 Aprons". One of them is from 1886. In the 1880s-1910s it was proper attire of the ladies of the house to wear aprons around the home even if they didn't do the heavy work, these were usually silk with embroidered flowers and wore while doing "household" chores like the mending, flower arranging or writing of notes. Putting on a large apron and going into the garden certainly sounds like a work apron! This is the apron that comes to mind https://www.pinterest.com/pin/343681015298786745/
