Jane Austen Knits Magazine

I am published!! This is so exciting! I have been bursting with excitement, longing to share the news with you, but trying to patiently wait until I could share it properly.

This past January I submitted a project for the Jane Austen Knits summer 2012 and it was accepted!! And finally, finally after much waiting it is here!! The magazine is now in stores and online.
It is so exciting to see one's name in print!

Jane Austen Knits is a knitting magazine with a Jane Austen twist! All the patterns are inspired by either a Jane Austen character or setting. Inside you will find a plethora of wrist warmers, shawls, socks, bags and sweaters.

Look at all the beautiful projects! Interweave always does a wonderful job.

"In the Regency Era turbans and Greek style headwear were popular and they were very similar to modern slouchy hats. This hat was inspired by two characters-Miss Jane Bennett and Miss Jane Fairfax-as well as Jane Austen herself. All three Janes exhibited grace and elegance wherever they went."

"Miss Jane's hat has a graceful cabled hat band with dainty embroidery and an elegant body gathered into bands of reverse stocking stitch. The hatband is worked flat and sewn together; stitches are then picked up around the top of the hatband and joined for knitting in the round."

Herrschner's 1927-8 Catalog

Herrschner's is a mail order craft supply company started by Frederick Herrschner in Chicago. A hundred years later they are still in business. I came across a 1927 catalog. It is fantastic! some of the pages are even in color. And there are lots of Aprons!!

 Don't you love their chic hair-dos?

 Of course, I love the aprons! The embroidery is too cute!

June Brides (part 1)

Look what I found at an estate sale this weekend! Tucked away in the basement with other books and magazines. You never what you are going to find!

"The Brides Book" 1930s and "The Brides Reference Book" copyright 1946.

 Inside of The Brides Book. It has places to record everything about the big day, including the weather. Love it! It was a free promotional from a local "jeweler and engraver". The illustrations are to die for.

"The Business of Being Mrs" that is what The Brides Reference Book is all about.

Jane Austen's Emma

I love the open window and her reflection in the mirror. Of course I also love that she is wearing an apron!

Doesn't it remind you of Jane Austen? Lately I have been stuck on the new Emma movie. The 2009 version. It is so so good.  I just recently watched it again with my sister and cousin, giggling the whole way through!  It was about time someone made a really good version of Emma. The one with Gwyneth Paltrow was good, but too short. I love how this version brings to life Emma's family. Other versions don't feature them very much, but then the book doesn't say much about them either. If I recall correctly.

I hope everyone has seen it, too good to miss!
