More 1920 Decorating Ideas-Bedrooms

Weren't those kitchens from Antique Home Style beautiful? Today I am going to share bedrooms! Most of these pictures are actually advertisements for flooring, hence the bright carpets and floor coverings.
A cheerful little bedroom under the eves. I have always loved dormers. 1920s architects made great use of them in bungalow style houses.
Through the doorway one catches a glimpse of a sewing room.......rather interesting a curtain is used to separate the two.
An attic bedroom. Did you notice a chair is almost always pictured? I love the idea! It would be very handy to have someplace to sit, especially if it is a cozy one like the wing chair above!
I hadn't realized painted furniture was so popular in this era. I love the same of the headboards and the painted roses.

Advert Pictures

These pictures are from Getty Images, an online archive. Most of their pictures are new and old photographs used for advertising. Because they aren't every snapshots there is a staged look to them, but we get marvelous views of the aprons!
I wonder what this one would have been an ad for........"You can cook a 20lbs turkey in your new GE stove!" She has such a sweet face and a cute apron! Do you see that dainty picot edge?
I can't image what she could be cooking with all those ingredients! Love her hair and the apron.

Decorating- 1920's Style

I have been a decorating craze lately, not a really doing craze, just a collecting and reading craze. Do you ever do that? Suddenly find yourself with a notebook of idea? Or can't go past the paint counter without picking up a few sample?  I ran across this wonderful site! Antique Home Style They have collected a fabulous collection of 1920's house plans and decorating ads. Here are a few of my favorite ones for Kitchens.
This one is my favorite! I love the clean cheery-ness of it.
Doesn't this one look cozy? A wee bit to much green for me, but I love those huge old sinks.
I have always wanted one of these "Hoosier" style cabinets. Don't they look handy? And who would have thought to put the pot lids on the door in a basket!
P.S. There is our apron of the day! A cute little gingham one over the stool!

Nature's Beauty-Zinnias!

Aren't they beautiful?!?
They are one of my favorite flowers. My sister and I went to our local farmer's market this weekend and I spied these flowers in buckets waiting to be taken home/ Can't really get better then a bouquet of zinnias! There isn't really any better way to celebrate the changing of the seasons either. Zinnias will keep on going until frost time!

1940's Refridgerator Ads

A few 1940s refrigerator ads for you to enjoy. I am not sure why I am fascinated with vintage ads.... Maybe because they seam rather simplistic compared to our modern ones? Maybe because they have not thrown good taste out the window? Maybe because I love the old fashioned-ness of the line drawings versus photographs?
I know there are lots of others out there who like vintage ads too, I have heard from quite a few of you! Why do you like them??
Surprisingly, there aren't any aprons pictured along with these refrigerators. I had thought they always went together .....like eggs and bacon....

Aprons in the Movies

What a glamorous picture of Lauren Bacall! Makes her rather ordinary half apron that much prettier.
Carmen Miranda making.........water?! I am sure this is just a publicity picture as she really doesn't look like she is cooking anything. Love her apron though! And did you notice the rick-rack trim on her dress underneath?
Barbra Billingsly as June Cleaver wearing a frilly little apron of sheer fabric. Obviously not for gardening!

From "Millions Like Us" an English 1940s movie about a girl who is called up to do war work. Even though she hopes for a glamorous job, she is stuck with factory work. Played by Patricia Roc. Very cute typical 40s style.

Walking in Their Footsteps....

Recently, my sister and I made a trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our Grandma lives there, in the same town she grew up in and met and married Grandpa. The same town he grew up in and the same town Great Grandma Anna grew up in. We got a chance to visit the old farm and take lots of photos!
The lane to get back to the car, left at the bottom of the hill at the gate.
I love the texture of the house, logs, chinking and a bit of siding. The farm is unoccupied and the grass is knee high. It made for very picturesque pictures!
Starting on the right, the milk house, pig sty, hen house and very last the outhouse. We are not sure why they are all built very close together, perhaps to make it easier to get to them in a blizzard....

Isn't that a nice red? It looks like the tar paper came that color.

A picture of some of the other outbuildings. The only ones standing are the ones I mentioned above. It is sad they are all falling in, but not much anyone can do.....
Anna feeding her chickens in front of the barn.

I am so glad we got to visit the farm. It was so very nice to see where so much family history happened......

Every Apron has a Story

This week's apron post is based on an article from Mary Jane's Farm. It is a magazine for lovers of all things country; country decorating, country cooking, canning, gardening, crafting and animals! Sort of a modern day Farmer's Wife magazine. The article that caught my eye is about two sisters who create one of a kind aprons!!
Take a peak!
"Joy is a word that you hear a lot when you are talking to Monica and Melissa. These two sisters, who live in neighboring towns, began making one-of-a-kind heirloom aprons out of vintage fabric and finding and started a business called Every Apron has a Story."
"This apron is my gift to you", my grandmother said to me,
"Woven with truth and women's power, it is your legacy."
I reached across my grandmother's apron and touched her gnarled hand,
And felt the souls of all women whose courage forged this land.
I thanked her softly for my present, in tears and filled with pride
I greeted the shadows of Aproned women walking by by side.
~Gwen Petersen, from "The Legacy" in Leaning Into the Wind
"You'll never find two of our aprons that are alike," says Monica. "We are very proud of that."
Something else the sisters are proud of is the legacy that their aprons help to continue. "We want to remind people of the beautiful time that came before us," says Mellisa.

The love these two sisters have for their aprons is as heartwarming as the affection they have for each other. "We could never design without each other," Monica told me. "We are a good team. We see things a little differently sometimes, but there is always a common thread."
All excerpts are from Mary Jane's Farm, Aug-Sep 2012.

Aren't they fun? So very inspiring! I might have to try making an apron like this someday.

Audrey Heburn- Sabrina

My sister and I watched "Sabrina" with Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart and William Holden. I had forgotten how cute it is. If you are tired of the same happy ending movies, this one is a classic happy ending with a twist!
I really wanted to show a clip of the cooking school scenes, but this was the closest I could find. It is very cute!! Enjoy! And shamefully only Audrey is wearing an apron!
